An as yet unidentified man was discovered dead near the Trade Centre in Ardbennie, Harare in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The man had a rope around his neck and appeared to have hung himself on the steel pylons of a tower light. However, the suicide seems to be suspicious and does not seem to add up when you consider the height element. The body was literally kneeling on the ground which brings doubt into the theory that the deceased hanged himself. Most people who commit suicide by hanging make sure they are a good distance from the ground to ensure that they follow through with their decision and do not succumb to the temptation to fight for dear life. The self-preservation instinct usually takes over in dire cases when a person is struggling for breath and would result in the deceased seeking relief by standing up. Another theory suggests that the deceased was murdered and that the suicide was staged to fool the police. At the time of publishing, the authorities were yet to comment on the matter.
