Civil Servants Demand To Be Paid In Forex As Govt Demands Duty In Forex, Cry Foul Over Reduction In Bonus

A few days after Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube presented the 2019 National Budget, civil servants have let their displeasure with it known and are demanding to be paid in foreign currency. The Apex Council, an umbrella body for civil servants unions was dismayed by Mthuli Ncube’s decision to cut the bonuses of civil servants without any consultation. The Apex Council was also particularly irked by the decision to introduce foreign currency only duty for motor vehicles and other goods, and as a result, has demanded that the civil servants should also be paid in foreign currency in order for them to be able to enjoy these goods as well.
