A HOOKER from Silobela who perhaps did not want her new-born baby to spoil her business during the festive season, dumped it in a blair toilet soon after giving birth.
Rumbidzai Ndlovu (20) has since been arraigned before the courts facing infanticide charges.
The baby later died upon admission to Kwekwe District Hospital.
Ndlovu of Village Cetshwayo under Chief Malisa in Silobela, was remanded in custody to 14 December for sentencing after she appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Tayengwa Sangster facing infanticide charges.
According to Devine Chakombewa who appeared for the State, Ndlovu who stayed at Springvest Lodge at Crossroads Business Centre in Silobela, felt labour pains as she was heavily pregnant.
“On 6 December, around 07.00 hours Ndlovu, who was pregnant, had labour pains and rushed to the blair toilet where she gave birth to a baby girl,” Chakombewa told the court.
After giving birth, the court further heard, the accused person dumped the baby in the toilet latrine and went away unnoticed.
The matter, however, came to light after Patience Moyo, a bar lady at a nearby drinking spot, went to the toilet to relieve herself.
Moyo heard some strange sound coming from the toilet latrine and alerted police who attended the scene and retrieved the baby.
The baby was rushed to Kwekwe District Hospital where she died upon admission.
Investigations by the police led to her arrest.
